"French Holiday" SOLD

"French Holiday"
12 x 12in oil on museum quality panel
$600

On holiday.
Escaping from routine.
Learning,
once again,
how to Be
Instead of do.

Take 5 and put yourself in this place, that chair
Hear the chimes in the distance
Smell earth's scent, feel the coolness of stone beneath your bare feet.
And remember who you are.

Just Breathe:)

A chance to study with me in 2012:)) Nov. 2-4, 2012 in Lexington, KY.  This workshop has just been added.   Click here for details.

"Summer Time....and the Livin' Is Easy"
8 x 8in oil on museum quality panel
$350

I love the summertime and the ease with which the days slip by.

Sultry summer mornings, balmy summer nights.

Sweet iced teas in frosted glasses.

A handful of good times shared under the shade of ample market umbrellas.

Italy

as good as place as any to spend at least one day of summer:)))

Guess What? Two spots just came available in next week's workshop (starts on Wednesday, June 6) in Lexington, KY!  It's too good to miss summer fun:))  You can check it out by clicking here!

"In the Company of Friends" SOLD

"In the Company of Friends"
12 x 12in oil on museum quality panel
$550

From the beautiful facilities of the Nossi College of Art (the dream of one incredible lady, Nossi Vantandoost)

to the 19 artists who gathered

From one rowdy Karen...and others...
who "blew me up" on their phones and used phone apps to "crack the whip"

To the...wait a minute...I know...they look so thoughtful.  But as we all know, looks can be deceiving.
I hate to mention the names of who else was rowdy, but hey, I have never minded posting photos....;)

A little taste of musical easels:))

Only the ones who behaved themselves got to be in the group shot.  And yes, I did say 19 artists were here.  Originally.  Hey, how did Karen get in this photo???
Okay, okay---I FORGOT TO TAKE THE PICTURE...almost:))!
Thanks to Joanne, Linda, Maggie, Mary Lou, David, Roger, Kristen, Carol, Ellen, Sarah, Pat, Patti, Susan, Karen, Karen, Debra, Marcia, Christy, and Carol for a wonderful 3 days of painting amongst friends:)!!!

And guess what??I hung out in Nashville a couple of days past the end of the workshop.  All work related if anyone needs to know:))

 I worked at:
Visiting the home of the History Channel's No. 1 Show--"American Pickers"
Neither Frank, Mike, or Danielle were there so...

I ate out.

I discovered a place where I could get a tan, have my hair done AND eat some bar-b-que--all under one roof so...
I ate out.
(Passed on the hair and tan though).

I visited Leiper's Fork way out in the beautiful countryside of Tennessee.
Home to many country music stars, like Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.
I didn't see either one of them so...

I ate out.
(At Puckett's Grocery)

I went to the B.B. Kings Blues Club
B.B. wasn't there so...
I ate out.
I finally came home, fearing if I didn't leave the wonderful hospitality of Nashville, that I would end up looking like...well, like the head I saw suspended from Antique Archaeology's ceiling...

I drove home Tuesday and had to break the long drive up so guess what I did??
No.  You're wrong.  Do you think all I do is eat on these trips???

I stopped at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY.

THEN  I ate out:)))

Wonder if the above Pig's head comes in a one size fits all??

"The Things We Love" SOLD

"The Things We Love"
12 x 12in oil on museum quality panel
$550

The things we love make us smile, warm our hearts and keep us coming back for more.  Market umbrellas, a glass of wine shared, and sunshine spilling out over it all---Italy is that and more. Here is the courtyard of Italian Kisses from a slightly different angle--we always return to the things we love:))

In Other News:
How do I love to teach?  Let me count the ways:))
Workshop in Paris (KY) well under way, palettes full of inviting color, laughter of friendship, busy brushes all add up to a very full heart.

Me--lucky??  You bet the cat's pajamas (yes, Eddie wears pajamas.  Silk, of course, with a smoking jacket.  Cuban catnip cigars.  I know, I didn't know they made such a thing either--there's just no accounting for taste.)

We listened to French songs while painting a bit of Italy.  Tomorrow I guess I must play Pavarotti while painting France:))

Wish you were here with us! Pin It

"Italian Kisses"
8 x 8in oil on museum quality panel
$350

Every nook and corner of Italy give reason to fall in love all over again
Vines tenderly holding onto stone
Colors that can only be cultivated by the passing of a century
or two
    or three
It surely must be
 Once  kissed by Italy
 Forever in love:))

In Other News:

  • My workshop in Paris starts next Monday--can't wait to meet all the new artists coming to paint with me!  If you'd like to make a date to study with me, you can see what workshops are available by just clicking here.
  • If you'd like to know what the word on the street is about my workshops, just click here.
  • My new favorite movie??  Midnight in Paris.  Shocking I know--me and a movie about Paris.  Who'd a thunk it.  It's out in theaters now and it is one of the most enjoyable movies I have seen in a long time.  Eddie and I are giving it a 4 Paws and 2 Thumbs Up.  We LOVE it!!
  • I will be drawing for two winners (May and June) for my monthly giveaway.  If you haven't signed up yet to receive my blog and newsletter, be sure and do so to get your name in the hat---Eddie is charge of the drawing but I am in charge of what the prize is, so you're in luck--otherwise you would be getting an autographed head shot of Ed, suitable for framing (according to him).
  • I am going to be taking my newest easel on its maiden voyage at my upcoming workshop.  Can't wait!  It's a James Coulter  design and you can see it by clicking here.  And I have a brand spankin' new wet panel carrier to go with it that keeps the edges of my wet paintings untouched!  I promise to get pictures of it in action at the workshop:))
  • Any suggestions for names?  I think she (he)  needs a name.

"High on Italian Sunshine" SOLD

"High on Italian Sunshine"
8 x 8in oil on museum quality panel
$350

Strategy
Today I had no strategy for sunrise
However
the sun came up on its own
Today
sadly lacking in a plan for the breeze I find
Somehow it's blowing!

Alas, totally forgot about the clouds
Shaping movement across blue skies
And yet--
there go those fluffy bits of nothing drifting by in my line of view

Take away??
Perhaps there is more rest, more peace, more joy to be had
Perhaps I am the one who complicates things by absenting myself
from the flow of life
to micromanage minutiae

"Street Dance" SOLD

"Street Dance"
8 x 8in oil on museum quality panel
$350

A few years ago while cruising the streets of Santa Monica, I had the opportunity to have a session with a cat physic.
I so wanted to do it--- I could just hear myself, years later, in polite conversation , dropping that into the mix,
"Well, you know that's exactly what my cat physic told me  would happen."  I could see how it could be useful for so many things...
Unfortunately, I hesitated just long enough to miss the opportunity.  I have regretted it since.
There aren't cat physics on every corner.  At least not in Kentucky.

And now you are probably wondering, what's that have to do with a painting called "Street Dance".
Absolutely nothing except just seizing the moments of life--like a spontaneous street dance:))!
Now about  the painting--confetti strewn color makes me think of a street dance.  No need for special party shoes, the right floor, or a house band.  Just move to the beat of life!

To quote one of my favorite people, author Martha Beck "So you think you can't dance?  Who cares??"
Do a street dance today in the spirit of Martha's son, Adam.

"Spanish Village Studio" SOLD

"Spanish Village Studio"
6 x 6in oil on museum quality panel
$200

Painting is a participation sport.  I've done my part--  now it's  up to you to see yourself stretched out in your favorite chair sipping something cool in the shade of the big blue umbrella.  I think I just heard a really relaxed aahhhhhh....Can I get you anything else?

In Other News:

  • Share your best studio tip!  Next week's Artists Helping Artists radio show is going to be on just that--I am betting you have a least one thing you do, tool you use, idea you have come up with--that would be helpful to another artist.  I would love to hear about it--and you can add a photo too if you like.  Just email me at DreamaTollePerry@aol.com and Leslie Saeta and I  will include it in next week's show.  Go to the Artists Helping Artists Blog for more details by clicking here. I have had it on my mind to do for some time, but today I finally got around to it!  I get lots of requests from artists  curious about my colors, surfaces I paint on, etc.

  •  I have added a page to my blog, called appropriately, My Favorite Things, on which I share just that!  You can have a look by clicking here.
  • Today I ordered my supplies for my upcoming California workshop and had them shipped to Leslie Saeta's home in Pasadena....LESLIE--THEY ARE NOT YOURS...STAY OUT OF MY ART SUPPLIES.  Sorry, just had to go public with this to make sure I still have stuff to work with when I get there in September--you know how artists can be when it comes to fresh, unsqueezed tubes of paint, new brushes, shiny palette knives.  Just writing it about it  makes me nervous.  Probably should have just taken my chances flying with them.....
