I think Eddie's grand gesture may be backfiring a bit.  His plan to garner extra media attention for mentoring the mystery offspring, one moustache wearing Eddie Pierre, has turned out to be a bit more than he bargained for.  Phyllis is trying to do damage control, lecturing Pierre on the importance of manners and that playing with Mr. Eddie Bill's tail is strictly off limits.

We are less than a week into the summer visit and  Eddie's already reminiscing about the "good ole days" to Phyllis.....says someone should have warned him that the Big Brother Program for mentoring youths was really the Big Bother Program....

All I can think is...
What goes around, comes around;)))

The cliff hanger is finally over.  It has taken all this time to piece the story together.

I knew Eddie had managed to pull something off when I spied a whole pile of gifts for him under the tree on Christmas morning.

Here's the skinny on it.

Evidently Phyllis, with the help of Eddie's manager Chumley, finagled a last minute deal with Santa.

I'm not sure who's idea it was--but for once Eddie is actually doing something for someone other than his furry self.

He has waived all modeling fees on the next painting of himself and has agreed for the money to go to the PAWS animal shelter right here in Paris. 

Obviously signed the papers under duress, from the look on his face:))

Now that the press has gotten hold of this,
in true Eddie fashion, he's insisting that this was his idea and how thrilled he is to be helping all those poor, ugly, homeless, toothless, cats down at the shelter (can we just say no one has ever accused Eddie of having a tactful bone in his body...AND he seems to somehow "forget" that I found him at the pound)....thanking, as it were, all the "little people".  I'm wondering if he's referring to Phyllis or just the fact that he views everyone other than himself as "the little people".

So here's the deal--the very next painting of  Eddie will be placed up for auction style purchase with all of the proceeds going to PAWS. 

Eddie is already bragging on how much he figures folks will pay for a portrait of him.  I told him I would guess at least 50 cents which put him into a real tail spin.  Couldn't resist:))

Since hearing of his rating on Santa's Naughty/Nice list (see latest Eddie installment), Eddie has been hustling his buns all week.

(It is now obvious---he CAN get by on less than 16 hours of sleep).

*Meetings with Phyllis in **"The Bored Room" (his spelling, not mine)
 

*Contracts examined, letters written.  **"The Fine Print"

*Even flowers for Phyllis for all her hard work (never mind he swiped them from my desk)
**"Flowers for ME??"

Apparently, after all that,  a plan has been hatched. 

Whatever it is, it seems to be in the box that Eddie and Phyllis have been moving all over the house--window to window, front porch to back porch, waiting for the FedEX man. 

Even I am stumped this time, and I know Mr. Smooth Fur pretty well.....

What does Eddie, the classic re-gifter, have IN that BOX???

I didn't know cats could sweat 'til today.....

Apparently, Eddie does miss me--in spite of all the caustic text messages I have been receiving from him.

As in:

We r fine without you.  I did not eat the last can of tuna--Phyllis is using it to sit on to brush my fur

I did not use your American xpress Card to order fur cream.  The package just got dropped off here by miztake

Glad you r gone.  The cleaning grils came and I did my best to leave lots of fur fer them to vacuum up  

I caught on when the airlines emailed me and said to please quit calling in that squeaky voice to see if my round trip ticket was still good.  Evidently Eddie thinks that maybe I am not coming home...(translated....who will support his furry buns???) and has taken to sitting at the window on the lookout for my car to pull in the driveway.

Naturally, Phyllis, no doubt the one who called the  airlines, is trying to fill in the gap of my absence.  Along with her usual Eddie duties, she has taken to creating a playlist of songs to keep his spirits up:

Things get lost in translation sometimes.  The maitre d' probably didn't realize that Eddie was a cat or that his assistant, Phyllis, was a mouse. 

I mean, how could he-- the reservations were made by phone.  And poor guy--when he asked for the name Phyllis told  him to just look for the dude "wearing the tuxedo".....

I would have warned him, if only I'd known.  Phyllis is way too fidgety--she never sits down, so she never reserves her place. 
And Eddie?? 
Well, when he has Phyllis reserve a table for one  he means  a table for one.

One tuxedo wearing cat who will lounge out fully in your fine dining establishment, sucking his teeth, grooming his fur and making attitudinal remarks to anyone who happens to glance his way with "Hey buddy, what are you looking at??  You wanna a piece of this, cause I don't think you do". 

And that's before he's had his first drink.

Just thought I should mention this in case Eddie ever has Phyllis to call and invite you out to dinner.

Be prepared for two things.

A table for one  and the tab.

Yeah, Eddie is famous for inviting people out to dinner then disappearing --sometime between snorkling down several shrimptinis and the tab showing up.

After the Derby day debacle, Phyllis had sworn to go on a diet.  She should never have mentioned it to Ed.  He fancies himself as the next Eddie (AKA Jenny) Craig.  Says he knows what it takes to get oneself in svelte condition.  So he decided the best thing would be for Phyllis to eliminate ALL cheese from her diet.  He may as well announced that he was also going to stop shedding--both things about as likely to happen! 

Well, you know how they say we trade one addiction for another? 

I blame myself for bringing home the cupcakes, but how was I to know.

Phyllis  decided that the strawberry and carrot cake cupcakes  counted as a fruit and vegetable serving. 

I like the way Phyllis thinks:))

I'm sorry.  Just when you thought it would be an Ed free week--you made it to Friday--and then--and then...

On occasion, one feels certain that one just might have run amuck.  Perhaps fallen short of the prize--maybe way short of being a serious artist.  Take this morning for example, fully intentioned to be all business,  "neating up" my office (an Ann P. phrase), addressing packages to ship and such....well....

cut to...

me on the back porch doing a photo shoot of one  lei wearing cat (Ed) dancing on a straw island hat with one lei wearing mouse (Phyllis).  I'm not sure, but I don't think real artists do this kind of stuff.  I mean, Monet, Van Gogh??  Cats, mice and leis?? 

But then I remember,  I have an artist friend who is, as we speak, crafting an iconic fast food Jack-in-the-Box head, concerned if she can speed the paper-mache dry time by placing it in an oven--- which makes me feel much better about myself.  Just sayin'.  And I am not going to mention any names...at least not at the moment.  Unless you really want to know.  Then of course I would have to give it up.  You are my readers and you come first.  At least that is what I would tell Leslie.

Inspired by my Hawaiian adventure, Eddie is planning his "truck-or-treat" outfit.  No, you didn't misread that.  Eddie misinterprets things from time to time---well, in fact, most of the time.  He hears one thing and then is off and running with his own story.  In this case I happened to  overhear him telling Phyllis how "truck-or-treat" works.  It involved mud flaps and high riding in a "monster" truck with Phyllis as a hood ornament.  Sometimes I just pretend I don't hear. 

It's easier that way.

I fear that Phyllis is a bit gullible ---playing right into Eddie's paws so to speak.  He, of course, is loving having an audience.  Jeez, it's gonna be a long week.....

Note:  This is second in my series of Eddie and Phyllis.  I have chosen to do them in the 8 x 8 size, which is nearly twice the size of  my normal 6 x 6 in daily pieces.

It's Ed.  Do I really need to say anymore??

 This is  what we've  come too.  Eddie is waiting on his agent to present me with the contract.  Refuses to let me really see him to paint--  just bits and pieces of fur and fluff.  Kind of a stand-off. He knows I am wanting to create two more paintings of him, one for my annual PAWS fundraiser painting for the end of this month and the other for the mouse project for Steve Worthington's book.  He keeps telling me the "claws" in his contract (Eddie doesn't really get the whole lawyer/contract language thing...) states that he is to get one can of tuna with each small painting sold of him.  So to satisfy him and his "cat people" I have added it to the price.  Not to worry, I will pick it up and deliver it, just as though you had done it yourself. No point in two of us being on Ed's bad side.
