Of course I notice this conversation always comes up after he's been into the catnip....

Eddie has been after me all day to paint him. This is a predictable follow up to me painting outside the family...as was the case with yesterday's Eklecktic cat, Scooter. All I heard today while I was working on one of the paintings for my show was, "Paint my good side, paint my good side."

Well, I hate to rain on Eddie's parade, but it came as a shock to me to consider the possibility that he has a good side. Seriously. He never lifts a paw to do laundry, pick up after himself or anything that could resemble help. However, he does....chew on my plants, shed profusely, sleeps in the sink, insists on having the faucet on then turns and walks away like he's not interested, always wants on the other side of whatever door is closed.

The problem is--I am a sucker for furry critters and Eddie knows this. I must have been a cat in a past life or something. At any rate, here's Eddie's "good side"---- according to him.

Paris--the city of cats. I know, you thought it was the city of lights. That's the other Paris. A little known fact, Paris is actually run by cats. There is Edward Jones, the investor cat. There are the floral cats at A New Leaf Florist. Then there is the painting cat, Scooter, who has his own studio in downtown Paris. I learned all of this from Eddie. Apparently, Scooter fetches rubber bands when you shoot them. And he lets some lady named Nancy Kleck use the studio. As I am typing this, I am now wondering what Eddie is saying about me when he is out on the town. Probably don't want to know.

Eddie can be so catty.

This is Eddie. This is Eddie acting as a arm chair cover. Eddie does not, as they say, have an "active" lifestyle. Some days I wish I was Eddie. Not everyone can pull off the "Hey, look at me, I'm an arm chair cover" joke. It's great to be Ed.

I most always have music on when I paint. It creates its own kind of magic and ads to the joy that is painting. Can you think of music any more well matched to the beauty of a single red rose than that of Andrea Bocelli?? Neither can I! If you listen close, you can hear him in this painting. And in that fashion we are all co-creators in each others work. Acknowledgement of each others gifts becomes the fuel for more great creative things to be born. It's kind of short-sighted to believe we do things "all by ourselves"....everyone who has ever encouraged us becomes a part of the work that we create. So , thanks to each of you who have been so kind to me about what I do and a special thanks on this one to Mr. Bocelli.

Setting up a still life is like directing a mini-play. It could be a monologue. Or you could introduce some new faces to support the main character. In this case, the curved lip teacup certainly has the spotlight, but it's made a little richer by the addition of a great cast of roses. There is something about the pairing of delicate china with velvety soft roses--tried and true like good love stories in the movies. We know how it's gonna end and yet we pull up a chair like it's a first....!
