And it's not, as you might first suspect, always due to money or a lack thereof.
Growing up in rural Kentucky, there were always little towns that I enjoyed cruising through. The houses would be way old--clapboard style and kind of melting into the ground....however, the yards were always mowed, trimmed and old tires had been whitewashed and filled with zinnias. And always, where there was one house like this, there were many--almost like the one had given birth to a whole slew of 'em!
Oddly enough, the same thing seemed to be so in the towns I found myself in a hurry to pass through--ramshackle homes, yards overgrown from neglect, housing an abandoned vehicle or two--also seemed to have spawned similar offspring.

Now remember our fellow "Prince" of party like it's 1999 fame?
My daughter Desiree (of the new kind of still life fame) went to one of several concerts he is holding this summer in LA and reported back that he started performing at 8 PM and played 'til 2 AM giving 6 encores and bringing out as a surprise guest... the legendary Stevie Wonder. They basically were having a jam session of life, doing the thing they most love to do and sharing it.
Desiree said it was, in a word, i-n-s-p-i-r-i-n-g to see someone so obviously living their bliss--that it made you want to go out and really live your life--not just settle for "that'll do" !
Inspiration begets inspiration.
