On Hold
An "over the river and through the woods" trip today brought home to me, once again, my love for painting. It is a totally indulgent way of experiencing everything more fully. Colors, shapes, and light--where would we be without light? Riding along, catching glimpses of the landscape, I saw things I would love to paint--in other words, experience more of. And that is life itself---so much of it. So much joy, so much beauty---impossible to experience every scrap of it. Perhaps that is why it matters so much that each of us do what we are designed to do. I can't travel everywhere, or write about everything, or know what it is do so many of the things there are to do in this one great life---
HOWEVER... if you share what you experience by way of making art, singing about it, sharing your story with me in a thousand different ways---it adds to every one's living--including mine:)
.
Just yesterday John and Lora Lea Dawson invited me to their home for a Christmas party. As I stood at the foot of this ginormous (I know, that's not a real word, but it does conjure up the big tree image..:))festooned tree in the family room, John began to share with me where each ornament had come from. In the process I got a glimpse into his (and Lora Lea's) life. Places traveled, his own childhood, memories made with their kids. It just made my life feel a little bit bigger. And when my friend Lynda Gregory wrote about her month long travels in France this past summer---well, I was there in every village and every bit of walnut oil purchased (you'll have to check with Lynda on the walnut oil story..:) And that's how it goes. My life is made so much richer by the presence of people who share their experience of life.
Today, indulge yourself in experiencing your slice of life. It is precious and meant to be shared. The world is waiting.
Note: The painting above was humming in my head on my ride through the country....couldn't wait to get home and paint it. Did I mention I love to paint...:)))
I take great joy in knowing we are experiencing this beautiful joy called life, together!
P.S. I will be drawing for the next 3 weeks (one each week), winners for my monthly painting giveaway (yes, if you need to know, I am behind..:)) so make sure to sign up to receive my blog, if you haven't done so yet so your name will be in the hat!
Also, I just sent out my monthly newsletter, and if you would like to start receiving it, you can click here to sign up for it (it will keep you informed on upcoming workshops, etc.)
