"JuNk DrAwer FriDAy!" No.12

BE PREPARED TO BE AMAZED, TO GAWK IN WONDER, TO SCRATCH YOUR HEAD IN CONFUSION, OVER WHAT YOU WILL FIND HERE.....:))

Let the Randomness Begin:

A Piece of Pretty:
When I spied this in a stationary store, of all places, it just made me happy.

It's a tiny, over the shoulder purse--perfect for an evening out when all you need is a credit card, lipgloss and your cell phone:))
Check out the stripes on the red fabric:))
It's now hanging out in my closet....have no idea how that happened!
I'm thinkin' it could just be the world's smallest art supply bag which would of course then make it a tax deduction.  Jus' sayin';))
The company is Goody Goody and you can look at their colorful goodies by clicking here:)) You may just find your own "art supplies" bag;))

Earth to Dreama:
Hillbillies, of which I am one, go barefooted a lot.  Now science is finally catching up with the hill people and agreeing that it's a good thing.
Of course they had to go and rename it to make it sound fancier:)
Earthing.

"Just as the sun gives us warmth and vitamin D, the Earth underfoot gives us food and water, a surface to walk, sit, stand, play, and build on, and something you never, ever thought about—an eternal, natural, and gentle energy.  Think of it perhaps as vitamin G—G for ground. What does that mean to you?  Maybe the difference between feeling good and not so good, of having little or a lot of energy, or sleeping well or not so well."

According to studies, as little as 20 minutes a day of "connecting" to the earth can do wonders (even Dr. Oz agrees)!
Just so you know, I am earthing as I type this.  To read more, click here:)

It All Started with a Paper Clip:
It never ceases to delight me as to what can happen when we allow our mind to think outside the norm of what is possible:))

If video doesn't appear, click here:))

Read to Me Baby:
What if you found a great article online--and what if you saved the article thinking you would get around to reading it later---and what if later never came?  Well, if you had this little guy (SoundGecko) he would read it to you.

For Free!
Here's one of my last posts, as read by the Gecko.  He didn't pronounce my name correctly, but hey...he's a Gecko.  And a free one at that:))
If you click here you will see how it works.  You put in the url of the article you are wanting to read and it will turn it into a MP3, email it to you and you can then listen to it on your computer, cell phone, iPad, etc.  Sometimes I feel like I am one of the Jetson's.....as in George with daughter Judy and boy Elroy....

*Thanks to Pamela at Big Brand Systems for the tip!

Fat Feelings:
Sums up nicely my feelings on fat-free foods....

If video does not appear, just click here:)

And there you have it.  A story reading gecko, how to get rich from your paper clips, diet tips from a dog,  purses full of posies and last but not least--- barefoot and pregnant...with possibilities;))  That should keep you off the streets and out of trouble for at least...er....20 minutes or so.  After that you're on your own...

P.S. SOMEONE WARN THE ITALIANS.
I am flying out Saturday and will arrive on Sunday in Tuscany.  Let the games begin:))
As I have been warning you, I will be posting lots of photos---and giving away my watercolor postcards, one each day.

All you have to do to get your name in the old capppello is leave a comment on this blog for each day's drawing.

P.S.S. Leaving a comment just got a whole lot easier:)))  I have eliminated the step that requires you to squint your eyes and type in some indecipherable code to prove that you are not a robot.  Eddie and I both know you are not a robot:)))

P.S.S.S.  I know, enough with the PS's:))  Just do me and Ed a favor and share today's post with someone who needs a fun spot in their day:)) Big Hugs from us both!

Well, if you wondered how long the "getting in touch with his feminine side" would last, let your wonderment stop here.

Eddie has taken to just cramming the flowers in anything, willy-nilly, and then calls for Phyllis to help "tweet" it.

I think he means tweak it, but.... does it really matter??

One giant sunflower.
One very small mouse.
Help Wanted.

Well Golly!!
I don't know when I have had this much fun.

How come I was the last to know you'd even want a free art print of mine??

"Color Song" was one of the names that came up often:)

You are wonderful!

I loved reading what you had to say, you're funny, sentimental, and just all around AWESOME.
With all that, it just seemed like there was more I could do:))
So I have drawn not one,
not two,

but

 Three Winning Names!!!

It was emotional so I made Random.org draw the numbers:)))

And the winners are....

Toni Pederson

who said she'd take anything Eddie..which made Eddie very happy:)

C.Dingman

... wanted Sunshine Dreams (another Eddie piece!)

Deb LaRocque

...was torn but voted for Dreama's Daisies
(thank you Deb!!!--I wouldn't have been able to spend the night in the house if you had gone over to the Ed side as well...:)

A heartfelt thanks for playing along---you pretty much rock:)))

P.S.  To the winners, email me at (click here) and let me know the address you wish it mailed to.

P.S.S.  And if you'd like to have a second look at what's available as a fine art giclee print, just click here!

"Which One Do You Want?"

It's time to give away something around here.
Like maybe a cat.

Or two.

I even have a phone answering dog I could let go of.

No takers??

How about....mmmm.....let's see

Gelato?

I guess it's still too hot to send that.

Well, all that's left is art.

 My art.

And no, I can't give away an original.  Are you kidding?  Have you seen how much food Eddie Pierre is carving through these days??
I've had to apply for a part-time job to support his 9 Lives habit.

What I am going to do is give away  an 11" x 11"  fine art giclee' print:))

You will have to do some work for it though.

First, you must call Eddie Bill every day for a month and tell him how handsome he is (he's much easier to live with when he's feeling too sexy for his fur...)
Secondly, I can't force you---but being such a generous soul, I am sure you will share this post with your best friend so that they too can have a shot at winning their favorite print:))

Third and Last??  You must go here, pick out your favorite print and let me know which one it is by leaving it in the comment section of my blog---how else will I know which one to send you when you win??
Click on the Print Shop Badge to Pick Your Favorite

Okay, I said that was the last thing, but there's one more.

Check back this Friday and see who's won what!

"Joy in the Morning" SOLD

"Joy in the Morning"
12 x 12in oil on museum quality panel
$600

Mornings are special.  Whether it be  rainy, snowy, or sunshine filled-- with dew glistening on cobwebs spun.
It is that hush, that first blush, of a singular precious moment ---that moment before the day itself is up and running away with us.

Mornings are truly a treasure, given anew, day after day.  A sacred time for us to remember who we are.

Really.

When we stop and partake of that JOY in the morning, we will find it surrounding us the rest of the day:))

May your morning and your day be filled with

JOY

In Other News:

ALERT!!  You best be gettin' your bags packed 'cause it's time to head to Italy.  And I am taking you with me....in a manner of speaking:))  In TEN DAYS, no less, I will be packing my paints, camera and a few glad rags and heading out to the Tuscany region of Italy.:)))

There will be POSTCARDS involved:)) or as they say in Italy....invia scheda:))  My intention is to blog and mail an original watercolor postcard to someone each day while there.  I will be drawing for a winner and it could be you:)))

Stay in the loop:))  Subscribe to my blog by clicking here!

And on an entirely different note....one of the many, many good things that happen when one is "online" is the making of friends from around the country and around the world.

If you happen to read my comments very often, you will see a familiar name.  June.  June of Ireland:))  June of Ireland makes mandalas, among other things, and keeps educating me on the beauty of her poetic homeland.  I have one of June's mandalas sitting in my studio even as I type:))  June has just started her blog.  She has all of two followers.  I thought it would be fun to spread some JOY all the way to Ireland by sending you to have a look at her life in Ireland....and maybe following her blog as well:))  If you'd like to stop by and say hello, just click here:))

"The Softer Side of Ed"

$600

Well, no one is more surprised than me.
Eddie Bill has taken up flower arranging.
Says he wants to "get in touch" with his feminine side....

Say What??

My personal thoughts on this?

Well, it could be a legitimate interest.
He always has had an uncanny ability to show up at just the wrong right time when a still life is being arranged to paint from, poking his nose in the flowers and chewing on errant rose buds.

I could almost, almost buy into it.

Except  for one nagging detail.

Phyllis has been packing in books and magazines left and right, all with tips on how to reduce stress.
Me thinks Eddie Pierre may be the real reason behind Eddie Bill's sudden interest in floral arranging.
What with flying tail attacks, being pounced on while sleeping and an ongoing shortage of  favorite food due to someone's growing appetite...Big Ed is feeling the heat.
All I have to say is .....

Welcome to my world Ed, welcome to my world;)

Drawing Upon Your Good Nature:
Loved this idea the minute I saw it on Think Jar Collective.
To quote the book description from Amazon:
"A rolling pin, a robot, a pickle, a water tower, a hammock, a wasp, a safety pin, a kiss. Budding artists and experienced sketchers alike will find themselves invigorated by this collection of offbeat, clever, and endlessly absorbing drawing prompts. Some are deceptively simple (just try drawing a bicycle!), some are conceptually mind-bending (sketching the sound of girlish laughter?), and some are refreshingly basic (the only hard thing about drawing an egg is deciding how you want it to be cooked). Hip and helpful, 642 Things to Draw is the perfect inspirational sketchbook, sure to entertain and provoke the imagination of anyone ready to pick up a pencil."

Just added to my store, you can click here to check it out:))

Get Carded:
So much delight in something so small:))

The lowly business card is still one of the handiest things around. Here are some great ideas for  card content....

"Bobbette Ross"---kinda has a ring to it, don't you think?

On Becoming a Better Writer:
Penned with the writer in mind----this piece is a perfect fit for painters too--or any of you doing creative work of any kind))  So wherever you read the word "writing" just mentally insert "painting ". Click to read.

And there you have it.  How to get carded when you're well past 21, big hair tips, what to do with a pencil and at least a couple of good reasons to look up:))

On holiday.
Escaping from routine.
Learning,
once again,
how to Be

Take 5 and put yourself in this place, that chair
Hear the chimes in the distance
Smell earth's scent, feel the coolness of stone beneath your bare feet.
And remember who you are.

Just Breathe:)

BE PREPARED TO BE AMAZED, TO GAWK IN WONDER, TO SCRATCH YOUR HEAD IN CONFUSION, OVER WHAT YOU WILL FIND HERE.....:))

Let the Randomness Begin:

On My Shoulder:
Every one's excited.  Eddie Bill, Eddie Pierre and of course, Phyllis.  For once, I am in total agreement with all of them.
It's not everyday THE bluebird of happiness drops by for a visit;))

Momma and Mia:
A couple of years ago I had the occasion to meet a gal named Mia Fontaine.  I loved her immediately.
Close to the age of my own daughter, she was  full of life with a ready smile and who knew---had co-authored a book that was on the New York Times best seller list!
Well, Mia and her  co-author have just released their newest book.

It came out during my birthday month and it was one of my indulgences:))!
Me and an Awesome Book at  Awesome Book Store, Joseph Beth Booksellers!

Mia's co-author??  Her mother Claire Fontaine:))  A story of travel to exotic places, food, and living in France--- all between a mother and daughter.  The things dreams are made of!

If video doesn't appear, click here:))

I loved the book!! Just added it to my Amazon store-- you can click here to check it out:)

Just Doin' the Math:
At 82 million, Vincent's painting settles out to roughly $156,000 per square inch, give or take a thousand or two.
At roughly $600 for a 12 x 12, my paintings settle out to  $4 per square inch, give or take a penny or two.

Even Dr. Gatchet doesn't know what to think;))

Believe it or not, Van Gogh's painting is not the top one---there were three ahead of it!
To see the top ten most expensive paintings of all time, just click here:))

RX for Fun:
Take one old school theater.
The Kentucky Theater in Lexington....where else, KY!

Chocolate and Antioxidants.
Confessions.....there was actually more chocolate stars to nuts ratio...before I picked through it....hence the current healthy looking nut to chocolate ratio pictured above;0)

(Okay, that's how this stuff was labeled at Fresh Market grocery.  I am such a sucker.  It could as well been called Chocolate and Battery Acid.  Chocolate and Motor Oil. They had me at Chocolate.)

And one true story filmed in French with English subtitles.  I love summer:)!

If movie doesn't appear, click here:))

Roots:
Eddie Pierre may be half Parisian and half Kentuckian, but his mother Heather, is clearly.....

A True Nashville Cat;))

So there you have it.  Reading at the movies, the write mother and daughter combo,  and a bluebird in hand is worth 3 in the bush--especially if it was painted by Vincent.

Remember. Life is like a guitar case.  You never know what you're gonna get inside;)

P.S.  Last chance to study with me in 2012:)) Nov. 2-4, 2012 in Lexington, KY.  This workshop has just been added.   Click here for details.

P.S.S.  If you feel like you need to add your voice to the random insanity of this post, please click here. Otherwise, just look away.

Or you could just share it with someone who has really been annoying you this week;)) Either one works for me.

There is beauty before me and there is beauty behind me.
There is beauty to my left and there is beauty to my right.
There is beauty above me and there is beauty below me.
There is beauty around me and there is beauty within me.

                                          ~Navajo Beauty Way Chant

"I once read a commentary on the painter Degas that said, 'He had a great talent for discovering beauty'.  Not creating beauty, or reproducing it, but discovering it.  That was the first time I realized that an artist's real contribution isn't what he paints, but the way he sees."

                                                                                 ~Martha Beck

It's Your Turn!!

Take a moment, as you read this, to look around in your immediate space to see what beauty is there, in this moment,  just waiting for your eyes to discover it.  Is the steam rising from your cup of coffee?  The beauty of a handwritten note?  Sunshine designs on your bare floor?  What is it?? ‎"One day your life will flash before your eyes.

Birthday's are a good time for reflecting.  Someone, and I am not going to say who, has been pausing to reflect this week:))

This involves some reading-- of course:))
And journaling.
And silence.

Also coffee.
Chocolate.
And naps.

I'm expecting great things to come of this.
Either I am on the brink of some epiphanies
OR
I will be well read, a little jacked up on caffeine and sporting 5 extra pounds.

Either way
It's gonna be a good week;)))
