"La Grand Opening in France"
12 x 12in oil on museum quality panel
$550

With each group of artists that I am honored to spend time with---I am always so touched by their talent, their unique way of being in the world, how they share and care for each other--and cheer each other on as well.  I find each group has its own energy, each its own joy---and I am the lucky person that gets to soak it all in!
This group of ladies at my Lexington, KY workshop made for a delightful 3 daysKarla made and brought home made candy, Brenda shared her great organizing techniques, Anne decorated her eye especially for us:)), Nita gave us the quote to remember, Anna made sure everyone got to park cheaply, everyone shared paint, forgotten palette knives, mediums, ideas---and this group totally  painted the hours away
A very big thank you to each one of you for choosing to study with me--you were a blast!!!

Look what a beautiful crop of day one paintings this group of artists produced!!

Memorable quote of the workshop??  After everyone shared their thoughts on the musical easel session, Nita concluded we were all just a bunch of "loose" women.  (She was referring to our brushwork...I think.  Anyway, what happened in Lexington, stays in Lexington....)

"The Girls"
Moi, Rhojean, Trudi, Karla, Debbie, Faye, Roni, Sherry, Anne, Sarah,
Nita, Linda, Pris, Brenda, Anna, and Sue
AKA.....Loose Women:))

Next workshop??  Nashville Tenn:))  Ready or not--here I come!! (David Gillihan and the Artists on Main--I'm headin' your way and can't wait!!)

          " Nurse Ed"

I have been a bit under the weather this past week.  Hence the lack of paintings.  Not that I haven't been painting, but I have not been finishing anything.  Sinus and completion of paintings do not make for a good match I have concluded:))  I think I would have been better much sooner except I got stuck with you know who as my nurse.  Fearing a set back and further "nursing" I have opted to behave myself by resting and drinking lots of liquids:))

Besides--it has given me time to relish and plan my upcoming workshop in Lexington, KY which starts this Thursday:)

And now to the important part and the real reason for posting tonight---the Help Japan Challenge on Daily Paintworks is well underway:

"It has been a little over a week since we saw, in disbelief, shocking images of the devastation of the March 11 earthquake and its subsequent tsunamis in Japan. Now the unprecedented nuclear crisis compounding the misery of the survivors there, many of us are asking, what can we do to help?"  Read More...

Everyone is coming together to help--so far, over $4,000 has been raised in just a couple of days.  Thanks to David Marine and Keiko Tanabe of DailyPaintWorks for putting this together. Pin It

Gotta love the way color bypasses the brain and heads straight for the heart.  The heart is not stimulated by facts and details.  It just knows beauty the minute it sees it.  You can't sell the heart on things that aren't true.  It ignores the facts, fluff and fodder and grabs hold of truth and beauty.  One may see "red", be pea "green" with envy, feel "blue", or be accused of being cowardly "yellow", but that's just the brain trying to fudge in on  color's territory.
Color is beautiful, always,  and it knows it:))
I see your true colors shining through:)

(and you thought your monitor was just one way viewing... in the words of Billy Crystal---
you rook mavelous:)!

"Art is what we call...

the thing an artist does.

It's not the medium or the oil or the price or whether it hangs on a wall or you eat it. What matters, what makes it art, is that the person who made it overcame the resistance, ignored the voice of doubt and made something worth making. Something risky. Something human."

In one of those moments of life imitating art...or art imitating life...or Eddie just making stuff up....here's the latest.

Eddie's Story:
He spent the week at the local spa having some beautification rituals performed and making plans for a return visit to have Zoom whitening done on his teeth, tail extension, ear straightening, whisker implants---well, you get the picture.
And according to Eddie, he is now just one degree away from Johnny Depp (you may recall the "twins, separated at birth" theory Eddie has of himself and Mr. Depp),  due to some activity at the spa while he was there.

My Story:
In a much needed break from Eddie, verging on a desperate act, I begged the local vet, Kendra (at Central KY Veterinary Services), to house Eddie for a week and bring him up to speed on his shots and teeth cleaning.  I did not order Zoom whitening and do not believe they offer the nip and tuck things Eddie is talking about.  As to the Johnny Depp, one degree away story...oddly enough, it seems to check out.

The Scoop:
According to unnamed sources.....Evidently, during Eddie's stay, one pot-belly pig was admitted for emergency surgery.
Guess who the pig belongs too?
Johnny Depp.

You just can't make the good stuff up.  I am......

Speechless in Paris.

 "Mr. Big Paws"
6 x 12in oil on museum quality panel
$350

To meet Kitten you must take a trip to the country.
Way out in the country.
All the way to a road called Toadvine to a place named Sabbath Song.
 Sabbath Song is a B & B
owned by a beautiful lady named Carolyn.
Carolyn is an artist and her husband Wes, is a composer.
They have horses,
English Mastiffs
and no cats.
Kitten is the neighbor's cat.
He came over to visit on my last visit to Sabbath Song.
He walked right in the back door of the converted barn that is now the B & B and jumped up in my lap, up on my chest
and started nudging his cheek to mine.
He made the rounds to all who were there
tried to swipe some food from the table
and then headed back outside to go on a big hunt for the day.
That's just how Mr. Big Paws rolls:))

"A Very Merry-Go-Round in France" SOLD

"A Very Merry-Go-Round in France"
8 x 8in oil on panel
$350.

Times spent alone, reading and getting quiet, are the very best of all.
As the world at its dizzying space
whirls 'round me
this place is like standing dead center in the merry-go-round.
I can see everything going round
up and down
lights flashing
laughter
sorrow
and yet I would swear I'm standing on solid, unmoving ground.
It's the quiet place in this ride called
Life
 From there
I can peer out and see that all the tumult and busyness is just an illusion.
 From there
I can enjoy the beauty, the  music, the sights and sounds.
From there
I can love and heal.
From there
peace can be experienced.
From there
balance can once again be gained
strength made manifest
to ride upon the winds of change and time.
Centered
in the merry-go-round of Life.
What a ride
