"Don't Tell Dreama" SOLD

"Don't Tell Dreama"
8 x 8in oil on museum quality panel
$350

Whispers.
 Snickering.
And then... dead silence when I walk in the room.  Eddie is up to something, I just haven't figured out  what.  There are some clues, but all seem  unrelated.  First, he has been watching a lot of TV lately, which normally I don't mind since it keeps him out of my hair.  But then I walked in and caught a glimpse of what he's been watching......

Yesterday a signed contract where he has hired a stunt double (see photo of Mickey) turned up in the mail.

Mickey, Eddie's Stunt Double

And perhaps most disturbing of all, a proposal to do a reality TV show..... at my house.
Phyllis let it slip that he's now interested in adding Edditing to his credentials. Translation?  Hours of filming  condensed to make himself look like---well, probably Eddie  Depp
and hours of film edited to making me look like......
Like I said.  I'm worried.

Note:  "Don't Tell Dreama" is No. 9 in the Eddie and Phyllis Series.  To see the others, click here:))

Extra Note of a CAT CALL: I have someone wanting a painting of a silver tabby to remind them of a cat they had years ago that they were so fond of.  Eddie refuses to have a make-over to accommodate this, so I am sending out the call.  Calling all silver tabbies--send me some cute photos of yourself to paint:))!  You can email them to Dreama (at) DreamaTollePerry (dot) com.  Eddie will be mad that I am painting you, but he will will get over it when he see's how cute your are:))

"Opening in France"

There is always, always, time for the sweet breath of life to blow across the soul.
It is the other things that there may not be time for
And if they fall away
No one will notice
They will not be missed
This quietness, this time of pausing, this is what the world is hinged upon.
It is what must be
so that all that is unnecessary will fall away
For it is that other that weighs  down, that would prevent the taking of flight
There is always time, time for the sweet breath of life to blow across the soul.

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They're really saying I love you.

I hear babies cry, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world.

"Joey, Atlanta, and the Quote to Remember"

"Joey"
8 x 8in oil on museum quality panel
SOLD

Joey was one of two house cats at the "Hotel Byrd" (my incredible accommodations in Atlanta,  which were provided by Leslie Saeta's brother, Gary, and wife Aileen.)  Joey avoided me the first two days, but I came in the third day to find him nesting in my luggage:)).  Thanks to artist Karen Rose, I  came home bearing catnip gifts for Eddie (which distracted him from noticing the orange hair on my clothes).....

Me and My Partner in crime, er I mean...Co-Teacher for the workshop, Leslie Saeta:))

Atlanta was a workshop to remember.  Artists from Wisconsin, Rhode Island, Florida, California, Louisiana, Kentucky, Oklahoma,  New York, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina met on Thursday as strangers and parted on Saturday night rich with a collection of new, supportive, talented artistic friends!
The workshop was held at the Kings Plow Art Center and it made for an incredible home for our artists!  Lots of room to spread out--we even had our own kitchen:))

I demoed the first day--- and look what beautiful paintings the group painted on day one! (And I should say that this group was made up of beginning artists to seasoned artists--simply amazing!)
Then we ate:))

And painted some more---Day two was Leslie's demo day and the boat paintings just came sailing in:))
And of course we ate some more:)) (Leslie and I did the cookin' both nights and it was good--even Eddie would have approved..:) (and thanks to Gary and Aileen for hosting all of us crazy artists:))!!

In all, there was a lot of painting, learning, eating, sharing, laughing, crying, hugging, teasing, and all around good times.  The kind of stuff that makes us strong as artists and people, that helps us to go out and do our own work and do it well:))! You can look to hear from these artists in the future.  They are one motivated bunch of painters:))!!
And here's the gang!  Wendy, Patsy, Jana, Lisa, Regina, Pam, David, Tricia, Kelley, Karen, Diane, Cate, Julia, Ruthie, Cissy, Sandra, Monica, Libby, Jerri, Leslie, Ann, Joyce, Kathy, Marissa, and Me::)!!

And the quote of the workshop??

...."If I don't glue something I think I will just explode."
 ~Ruthie

(you had to be there for this one, but trust me, you would have belly laughed with us all:)))
Thanks to each of you who came and made this the wonderful experience that it was.  My drive home from Atlanta to Kentucky sped by as I thought of each of you and your stories and your paintings.  Simply amazing:))

"A Feller Does What a Feller Wants to Do"

My daughter and I have a saying that we like to use on each other at the appropriate times--usually when one of us is standing our ground, fiercely defending our reasons for "that maybe true but it will never work in my case and let me tell you why...":))

You can't have everything you want....

But you can have anything you want

Case in point?  The Herb and Dorothy story.

"Herbert Vogel, a postal clerk, and Dorothy Vogel, a librarian, managed to build one of the most important contemporary art collections in history with very modest means. In the early 1960s, when very little attention was paid to Minimalist and Conceptual Art, Herb and Dorothy Vogel quietly began purchasing the works of unknown artists. Devoting all of Herb's salary to purchase art they liked, and living on Dorothy's paycheck alone, they continued collecting artworks guided by two rules: the piece had to be affordable, and it had to be small enough to fit in their one-bedroom Manhattan apartment.

After thirty years of meticulous collecting and buying, the Vogels managed to accumulate over 2,000 pieces, filling every corner of their tiny one bedroom apartment. "Not even a toothpick could be squeezed into the apartment," recalls Dorothy. In 1992, the Vogels decided to move their entire collection to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. The vast majority of their collection was given as a gift to the institution. Many of the works they acquired appreciated so significantly over the years that their collection today is worth millions of dollars. Still, the Vogels never sold a single piece. Today Herb and Dorothy still live in the same apartment in New York with 19 turtles, lots of fish, and one cat. They've refilled it with piles of new art they've acquired."
(To read more about the movie and this article, go to www.herbanddorothy.com)

This story reminds me of others I have known in my life--like Evelyn.
Evelyn was in her late 70's, had never flown, never traveled. Well, Evelyn got wind of a opportunity to go on an Alaskan cruise with a group of senior citizens. Although it was way out of Evelyn's budget, she started talking it up, planning , dreaming and scheming. She worked extra hours, saved and scraped, and guess who went on their trip of a life time at age 78? Evelyn of course. You couldn't wipe the grin off her face for months after her return!

My dad had a saying that I never really understood 'til I was older--usually thrown in when people started bandying about excuses for things in their life they weren't happy with, missed opportunities, reasons for being late all the time, etc., etc.

"A feller does what a feller wants to do."

Which after my years of living, I now conclude meant---we choose what we want, what's left falls into the excuse category.  Herb and Dorothy didn't make excuses about having a passion for something but not being able to afford it.  Evelyn didn't talk about traveling to faraway places while saying it could never be her because she was too old and didn't have the money.

It comes down to simply knowing what is it that you really want.

Remember, you can have anything you want.

What do you really, really want??

"Never Never Land"
6 x 6in oil on museum quality panel
$200

It's not far down to paradise
At least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away
And find tranquility
The canvas can do miracles
Just you wait and see
Believe me

It's not far to never never land
No reason to pretend
And if the wind is right you can find the joy
Of innocence again
The canvas can do miracles
Just you wait and see
Believe me

Sailing
Takes me away
To where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free

Fantasy
It gets the best of me
When I'm sailing
All caught up in the reverie
Every word is a symphony
Won't you believe me

It's not far back to sanity
At least it's not for me
And when the wind is right you can sail away
And find serenity
The canvas can do miracles

Just you wait and see

Believe me

Note:  My canvas is the one I paint on.  It carries me to faraway places on the breeze of imagination:)

It denotes all sorts of things.  Especially when used in conjunction at a hotel.  In Italy.
I have my own set of definitions for the "be my guest" phrase. It includes things like--
"Be my guest" (Don't make the bed)
"Be my guest" (Don't do laundry)
"Be my guest" (Have breakfast in your room)
"Be my guest (Have breakfast in your room in bed)
"Be my guest" (Have breakfast in your room in bed after sleeping half the day away)
"Be my guest" ( Have breakfast in your room in bed after sleeping half the day away because you are reading a great novel)
"Be my guest" (Have breakfast in your room in bed after sleeping half the day away because you are reading a great novel about this phenomenal woman having this amazing time in Italy)

"Be my guest" (To finish this story however you want.  A hotel, you and Italy-- and nothin' but time on your hands:))

Note:  Don't ever tell Eddie to "be your guest".  He has his own definition.  And no, you probably don't want to know--trust me on this one.

"Tales from the Cat Side"

Eddie and Dreama

You gotta have dreams.  Big dreams.  Even Eddie says so.

I got Ed at the pound. When he moved in with me I was living in a house 2 blocks from the beach in California--talk about movin’ up! Ed had a dream. He told me he used to lay awake at night at the pound pretending he could hear the tide rolling in and smell all the little shrimps (his eyes always kind of glaze over when he gets to the part about the shrimp…) Even when it continued, day after day, of someone coming to pick a cat and it was never him, he just kept on visualizing his house by the sea.

And little did he know,  out there, was me, thinking about wanting a cat, particularly a tuxedo cat, to live with me in my little house.... by the sea.

If you think about it, we don't take real things and make them into dreams.  We take dreams and make them into real things.

Dream Big:))

Beach Inspired Sonnet No. 54

Oh Sandy Beach Shack, how do I love thee?

I love thee to the heights of thy shabby shiekness
(means I don't have to attempteth to keep you cleaneth)

I love thee to the depths of the sand that cozyeth up to your fronteth door
(means I'm just a stones throweth from the surfeth)

I love thee freely
(means I have talked someone into loaningeth me their beacheth shack)

I love thee purely
(purely becauseth I am sure I was born in the tropics and switchedeth at birth)

I love thee with the passion put to use
( to get the hecketh out of dodge before the snoweth geteth to me)

I love thee with the breath, tears, smiles of all my life
And if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death
(but I intendeth to visiteth thee longeth before that happeneth.)

Please holdeth your applause for this master piece of poetry.  Just letteth it sink into your soul and imagine the sand.
Between your toeths of course.

P.S.  I have been warning you if I don't escape the snow, I will not be held responsible for what happens on this blog.
