"A Sunny Morn in Tuscany" SOLD

"A Sunny Morn in Tuscany"
12 x 12in oil on museum quality panel
$550

There is a sacred silence in the way the sun quietly starts our days.  Dusting gold on rims of flowers,  buildings  shaped from the earth, and at last, lingering on our face, warming it with the promise of the hope of a new day.  The sun certainly has its work cut out for it in Italy--it must bend, slide under, and glide around narrow passes to spill its joy onto the streets.  But it does it every day, faithfully.

There happens to be a red roadster parked just down the street.  It's a beautiful day to grab a friend, roll down the windows and take off  like you haven't a care in the world.  Make the most of this amazing life of yours--just this one day--out of all the thousands you will live...

"Storybook House of France"

Sometimes you round the corner in France and stumble upon those places that look like a page torn  right out of a childhood book.  Fantasy meets real life--what a delight:)!  Don't you love the colors?!

Speaking of fantasy and real life....I finally got to meet and spend some real time with Leslie Saeta, my "partner in crime", best buddy, great artist, co-host on Artists Helping Artists, and now co-teacher for workshops!   As you may know already, I met Leslie through art and being online a little over a year ago.  We had only met in person for a quick lunch one time--but we made up for it these past few days. Leslie invited me to stay with her for our Pasadena workshop and what an incredible treat it was.  Leslie is as warm as you might have suspected from reading her blog and seeing her art.  Here home is truly a home--made beautiful by her presence (and that of her sons, husband and Spef the dog).  We laughed, worked hard, did our radio show, cooked (I was the helper..:) for 20 wonderful artists two nights, and ended with getting a foot massage together (our feet said thank you!)  I feel so blessed to have Leslie as my friend and wish for each of you those people in your life who appreciate you, help cheer you across the finish line, always make you feel better for having spent time with them, and know they genuinely are happy when good things happen to others!

I just left Leslie's this evening and am getting to hang out a few days with my one and only daughter, Desiree, in LA.  I am still learning to use her mac, so I will post photos of the workshop and all of the great gals in it over the next couple of days--just as soon as I have a tutorial on how the heck to do it..:))

Belle Porte.  Simply irresistible. These doors  have swung wide for many a soul before you--but for today--they are opening up to you!  Slip inside, drop your suitcase by the stairs and step out on the balcony to survey your mini kingdom.  It's a beautiful day and I must say....you look pretty sassy up there..:)!   Even Eddie thinks so (actually he said ciao meow...he thinks he's speaking Italian when he does that).  Oh to be young, naive and Ed.

Note:  This is No. 1 in the French Italian Doorway Series.

The study of color.  I know as it relates to art, their are volumes written on just that.  Well, I guess I may as well come clean here on the color thing as applied to my paintings.  Color theory is not what drives my wagon.  I am just not a complicated person.  Color makes me happy.  And particular combinations of colors only make it worse (or better, depending on how you look at it..:)  It's that simple.
Which brings me to this combination.  Blue shutters (with touches of Caribbean blue, magenta and  radiant blue) nestled up against a crush of boisterously pink flowers ( with hints of transparent red, permanent rose, and indian yellow) all on a building in France.   Well, it's just nearly more than a fellar can take.
And that's my excuse (and Lord knows I need one) for being fixated on color.
Wishing you an exceedingly color filled day!!

It's actually difficult for me to think of a more perfect pairing than this.
A flower shop.
And not just any  old flower shop.  An Italian flower shop!!
How many roses do you think the basket on you bicycle can hold??

You have to know--if I am in a place this sweet, you're gonna have to come and help me enjoy it!  Sharing a house like this would be twice the fun.  Or four times.  Or ten times.  Gee, now that I think of it---I have a lot of great people in my life.  Guess I had better check out the other houses in the neighborhood to see what else is for sale...:).  Meantime, I am chillin' on the balcony, tending the plants, and shooing Eddie off the balustrade.  He likes to live on the edge.  With nine lives, he can afford too.
Hurry and get here so you can have first pick on your bedroom!

Yep.  That's your table on the corner, reserved and waiting on you, of course!  No need to rush. Dinner comes late, a mix of balmy evening air, beautiful language, and scrumptious food.  I'll be joining you later, so save me a spot.  Well, actually save two.  Eddie is bristling with excitement to see you.
He got his whiskers highlighted today and is hoping you will notice.  I know what you're thinking--same thing I thought.  How does one get white whiskers "highlighted"??  I don't make this stuff up.  I just report it.  At any rate, I am guessing it will make for some good entertainment this evening---watching him check himself out in the caffe window...It's good to be Ed.
It's good to be you.
It's good to be you dining in Italy  with Ed as your dinner guest.
Okay, maybe not so much the last part.  We'll just go with the "it's good to be you" part and leave it at that.

In Other News:

  • My work is now represented by the Renaissance Fine Art and Design Gallery in Carmel, IN.  Kathleen O'Neil Stevens is the owner and an incredible artist in her own right!  More to come on this..

  • Did you know...Artists Helping Artists internet radio show that I host with Leslie Saeta is the number one Arts Show on Blog Radio??  Yippee!  This week's guest is Alyson Stanfield, author of "I'd Rather Be in the Studio"and one of the things we are going to talk about is....TIME MANAGEMENT!  Something I think everyone can relate too....so if you can FIND THE TIME...tune in this Thursday...and if you can't--just remember all the shows are recorded for your listening pleasure...:))

  • I am heading to California in about a week to teach a workshop, soak up some sun, and spend time with my daughter.  To say I'm excited would be a little like saying Eddie thinks he's cute (which he is of course, but I never say that where he can hear it...)

  • I will be releasing my dates for upcoming workshops for 2011 within the week.  If you aren't on my newsletter list and are interested in knowing the locations, dates and details, you can sign up here.

  • Did you know...the paintings of Eddie and new friend "Phyllis" will be part of an upcoming book release by Steve Worthington, creator of "Phyllis"?  Eddie is very excited and keeps telling me to paint his good side.
         I'm still looking.

Now--go get ready for dining out in Italy.  You just never know who you might meet..:))

"And that's how you play dead.  Only  a skilled  actor such as myself can pull this off".
And there's Phyllis, hanging onto every word....Even writing it all down.  I am sure Eddie has sold her on the idea of writing his biography....all nine of them.
I have tried getting Phyllis off by herself, but the glazed look in her eyes tells me whatever I have to say about Eddie is falling on deaf mouse ears.

I am wondering what life Eddie is on, I mean, if something was to happen to him, accidentally of course, would he come back here, to my house, again??  Just wonderin'...

P.S.  This is No. 5 in this series.  Don't tell Eddie, but when I went back into my studio after completing it, it made me laugh out loud.  Eddie is so silly--even more so when he is trying to be dramatic...

When life feels complex, there is comfort to be had in the simplest of things.  Laundry drying in the heat of the day, blooming things hugging time worn walls.  Italy is that and more.  A timeless place to lose our complicated selves too.   So take the clothes off the line, fold them lovingly, and sit on the garden wall and survey your mini-kingdom.  For in this moment, all is well.

Have an enormously beautiful day.  Live moment to moment and let the  joy of this day roll in and surround you like the waves of the ocean.  All of this and more was made especially for you, for this day.
    Enjoy!

Running away for the day.  I know it's you.  Your bicycle isn't quite out of sight (actually Eddie's the one that spotted it).
I have to say --since you worked up your courage to actually do it, you have picked the perfect spot to hide out and  your secret is safe with me.
    Unfortunately.....  Eddie's talking blackmail.
Either you invite him over or he says he's going to "sing like a bird".....

I 'd noticed Eddie spending extra time grooming himself these past few days.  Then the Hello Kitty lunch bucket appeared.  Ever noticed how the devil is always in the details?  Per his manager, Eddie  informed me he has enrolled in acting class.  I'm guessing he didn't get the memo....it's an online class.

    Houston, we have a problem.
