"Business Expense"

I must confess, I do get a bit beside myself when it comes to flowers. I came upon FRESH CUT LILACS at the farmers market and basically "had a moment" where I lost contact with the real world around me......If you share my love for the scent of lilacs, then you know exactly what I am talking about. Of course, this was a "business" expense and I had to endure the smell while painting them and for several days afterward. The life of an artist can be tough, but I continue to soldier on. The strawberries were also found there and of course I couldn't just buy 3 of them, so I had to eat the remainder of a pint. All of this took place while visiting my daughter in LA. It was a wonderful trip, filled with lots of great food, sunshine and most of all , beautiful people. Later this week I will be posting a few pics from my time there.

And I have a request---please help me to grow my website and blog by forwarding this page to fellow art lovers! Thanks! Pin It

"Eddie Offers to Cover for Me While I'm Gone"

Eddie, my cat, has offered to go into my studio and do some work for me while I am away. Naturally, I am concerned. What you see in the photo here is Ed's idea of a working day. And he has been know to chew on the still life set ups. He's just not a good candidate, I fear, but I am also afraid to tell him. I am going to be gone and he will be here with all my worldly goods. Smells like disaster to me. I don't think he yet knows how to actually post anything on the blog, but if you see any "new" work that seems to have a furry edge to it.....well, you'll know what's up.

"Pansilicious" SOLD

The pansy saga continues.....! Painting the same subject back to back allows one to build on what was learned from the day before. Hopefully. That is what always brings you back to painting. The hope of understanding more than you did on the previous painting day. What keeps me in love with painting is this---there is always, always more to learn. I have always felt that if one actually did know it all, then one would potentially become bored and be forced to get another job...... Pin It

"Pansy Talk" SOLD

I had lots of plans today. A very long "to do" list. But the pansies were calling. They were like an insistent drum beat, "paint me, paint me". I am not making this up. Having inspiring material at hand is akin to keeping really good chocolate laying around. No matter what you are doing, no matter how hectic it is, there is always this part of your brain that keeps reminding you--there's chocolate in the house.........I held out on the pansies 'til about 2 this afternoon, when I just couldn't take it anymore. Sometimes it pays to listen to the pansies. Pin It

"Momma's Teacup" SOLD

Dishes are such telling things, so unique to each family, able to bring back long forgotten memories in the blink of an eye. From the jelly glass I drank milk out of as a child, to the orange glass bowl that mom served up her home made mashed potatoes in, dishes often outlive the original owner and move into the waiting hands of the next generation. I especailly enjoy teacups and coffee cups because they remind us of the delightful conversations that have passed over them. Golden lipped and delicately shaped, this teacup has waited a long time to be painted and I must say, it was great fun! Pin It

"Just a Couple of Daisies" SOLD

This was a fun piece to paint. I love the chunky lines of the cream pitcher and daisies are always to fun to do. You think that all daisies are alike until you paint them, and then you realize they each have their own personalities--just like people! Pin It

"Somebody's Gotta Be First" SOLD

I was so excited to post my first painting that I forgot I needed to name the baby! And then, with a nervous grin, I realized what it should be. That dreaded spot that no one ever wants to be in, but Somebody's Gotta Be First....

So here we are---off and painting. My box of 8 x 8 Raymar panels arrived yesterday and after a coat of gesso, they were ready to go. I wish you could smell the strawberries--the heat from the spotlight on them kept my studio smelling delicious all day.
